Another good church sign

We saw this one on the way home from a little hike in a state forest today.

We also passed a real howler on the way to the park, and had planned to snap a photo of it on the way home, but by the time we got back there, they had changed it. Darn! It read
STOP, DROP AND ROLL DOESN'T WORK IN HELL.

Dueling signage

I'm sure you've all seen signs like these. These two churches are right next to each other and have a sort of "dueling banjoes" thing going. More to come.

Hurray for Air Tran!!

I saw coverage of this incident on the local TV news last night, and I just read this article on Yahoo News about it. And I say, "Way to go, Air Tran!!" Woo hoo! Somebody final stands up to unruly kids and their inconsiderate parents.

At the end of the Yahoo item, the father is quoted as saying he and his family would never fly Air Tran again. My reaction? "Can I get that in writing?"

I have now put Air Tran tops on my list of preferred carriers next time I fly.

Here's hoping all the other parents that don't control their kids also boycott Air Tran. I'll bet you'll see their bookings go up.

Thanks again for helping to stop the insanity.

Edit: Jan 24
Another Hooray for Air Tran. He spells it differently but the sentiment is the same!

The Birds

Like something out of a Hitchcock movie, thousands of small birds swarm over our neighborhood every night at sunset. What you see here is nothing compared to the really dense clouds of them that descended on the house a few nights ago, according to my wife. The funny thing is that they don't swarm like schools of fish that all move in the same direction, in waves. No, these budgies swarm like gnats around your head in May. All different directions all at the same time. Sorry for the compression artifacts. The sky at dusk is difficult to capture without some quantization effects.

Does anyone know....??

Does anyone know what happened to Comcast internet service in Florida for the past week or so? I have been unable to connect to several very well-known web sites, like weather.com. Now, all of a sudden tonight, bingo...it just starts working again. Did Comcast in Florida have some kind of outage or lack of connectivity to some other ISPs? Things like this have been known to happen when some of the biggies get snippy with one another over cross-traffic, billing, etc.

Florida house and a nice sunset

I thought I'd make a little video tour of our rental hosue while the burgers were cooking last night on the grill. The weather's been great, mostly in the low 80s, which is quite a bit warmer than it usually is here for January. I could definitlely get used to this. :)

Da Ali G

We're in Florida for the month of January at a rental house. In the back of the house is small lake with as yet undeveloped land on the other side. A good habitat for local wildlife, including alligators. If you've spent any time in Florida, you know this is a common sight around any body of water. The family that owns this house is from England, so they named this fellow Ali G, after Sasha Baron Cohen's character of the same name.??

F.L.A., bitches...

Hot tub, yo?
Yo, check it out. We just got to our rental house in Florida. 82 degrees and a hot tub right in the lanai. Sweet!
